I recently went to the GenCon gaming convention and demoed a bunch of games, one of which was the new SpyCraft CCG. This collectible card game is by the designers of some of my favourite CCGS ... Legend of the Five Rings and Doomtown.
I am really liking Spycraft in the demo and few games I have played. It seems like a very natural evolution in CCGs and takes a lot of the best elements from L5R and Doomtown and puts them into one spy-themed card game.
Some of the key features I like about it:
1) Players take actions in the same turn, back and forth, just like Doomtown.
2) The victory conditions (winning spy missions) forces player interaction.
3) The skill and TN system is a great mechanic, giving every action a cost.
4) Some of the rules are simple. You can simply take every action on a card only once per turn .. no bowing, or tapping and wondering if you can take the action more than once.
5) Templating. They have the actions and costs of those actions cleanly and uniformly spelled out on the card.
Go to the website or your local game store and give it a try. It may just replace L5R as my CCG of choice.
